Infrastructure

Darrang College has an adequate academic and physical infrastructure catering to the 25 subjects in the 10+2 and Under Graduate Classes. The integrated campus incorporates besides the Class Rooms and Galleries the following:

Departmental Establishments

Every Department has its own sitting room for the teachers with computers and a departmental library for both teachers and the Major students. Science Departments have spacious and well-equipped Laboratories for practical classes. The Department of Zoology has a rich museum and the Department of Botany has an Orchid House. The Department of Education has a psychological laboratory.

Academic Building

A new Academic Building funded by the Dept of Planning and Development, G.O.I, to augment the existing infrastructure of the College State-of-the-art ICT facilities is under construction on campus.

The College Library

The new state-of- the-art independent Library building covering an area of 5033.40 sq ft is situated in the western part of the College campus. The building comprises of three floors (each floor dedicated to each streams -Arts, Science, Commerce); a conference room; an E-library section; a back volume section; a rare books section and three reference book sections (for three streams –Arts, Science and Commerce). The library is fully computerized with bar code technology and has a capacity of 160 seats for students and a separate reading room for teachers. Internet and Xerox facilities are also provided to the students.

Library Rules

Number of Library Cards issued to the students are as follows: A student is not allowed to keep books for more than 15 days from the date of issue. In case a student fails to return the books within the stipulated period, he/she will be penalized. Books lost, defaced or mutilated in any way shall have to be replaced by the concerned borrower.

The Auditorium

The College Auditorium, with a sitting capacity for 1000, came into existence in the Diamond Jubilee year, 2005-06. It is used for holding various competitions during the annual College Week along with other cultural programmes besides seminars and meetings.

Hostel facilities

Hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls. Both the hostels are situated within the college campus. The Boys. Hostel accommodates 50 boarders. The boarders are provided with such facilities as library and reading room, indoor and outdoor games, a television set, etc. The Girls. Hostel has 106 seats. It has a library and indoor and outdoor games facilities. A powerful generator has been set up to provide uninterrupted power supply during the study hours at night. Admission to hostels is strictly on merit basis. Reservations are as per Govt. rules. Forms for admission to hostels will be provided after admission. Forms, duly filled up, are to be submitted with the Accountant’s office immediately after admission. Boarders are to maintain strict discipline as per hostel rules. Violation of rules will lead to punitive action, even to the extent of expulsion from the college.

Canteen facilities

The College has two canteens within the campus for refreshment of students and teachers. The canteens usually function from 9 a.m. to 5.15 p.m.

Common Rooms

The College has provided separate common rooms for teachers, and students-boys and girls. They are spacious and provided with newspapers and magazines. The Commerce Department has its own girls. common room within the Department.

Drinking Water Facilities

Adequate number of water coolers dispensing pure drinking water has been provided within the campus.

Sports Facilities

Darrang College has a playground within the college campus which is large enough for outdoor games like football and cricket and for various track and field events. The medium-sized gymnasium of the college provides the students with much-needed physical exercise and stress-relieving asanas. Multi-gym & indoor badminton facilities are also provided by the authority for teachers as well as students.

Parking sheds

A shed for parking the cars of the college employees has been newly constructed. There are as many as five bicycle and bike sheds for the employees and students of the college.

Uninterrupted power supply

The College has installed a new 100KVA silent Generator funded by UGC (NERO) for uninterrupted power supply. This is in addition to the already existing 20-kilowatt generator for main building and two 2000-watt generators for the girls. hostel & Commerce Department.

Students Union Office

The Darrang College Students. Union has its permanent office near the college playground where it sits and holds regular meetings.

Alumni Association Office

The office of the Darrang College Alumni Association is located near the Boys. Hostel. The association has more than 100 bonafide members and 30 life-members and act as a suggestive body of the college in different academic and administrative matters.

Computer Centre

A Computer Centre with 30 sets at present has been housed on the first floor of the Bhagawat Prasad Memorial building.

IGNOU Study Centre

A study center of the Indira Gandhi National Open University has been established at Darrang College in 2007. It is located adjacent to the Computer Centre. At present, it offers 31 different programmes. The Centre provides various PG Course, Diploma Courses and Certificate Courses.

IGNOU's Convergence Centre

Indira Gandhi National Open University is offering courses to Darrang College as its partner institute. Students enrolling in regular H. S. and T.D.C. courses can also enroll for these courses parallelly.

IDOL Centre

The Institute of distance & Open Learning is offering Post Graduate & Diploma Correspondence Courses in various subjects. Regular counseling programmes are conducted by the college teachers and guest teachers to felicitate learning of the students.

Career Counseling and Placement Cell

The Career Counseling Cell has been providing career guidance to students since 2004. The cell also organizes personality development camps and motivational programmes. The placement cell was formed in 2007. With its efforts a campus interview was held in the college under the auspices of the famous software company, WIPRO.

EDUSAT

Edusat network facility has been established in the year 2006. The Consortium for Educational Communication (C.E.C.), New Delhi has granted a Receipt Only Terminal (R.O.T.) facility.

Women's Studies Cell

The College has an active Women.s Studies Cell, engaged in the study of various women-related issues and in providing regular psychological counselling to the students. It has a tie-up with the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Mental Health Hospital, Tezpur.

The Centre for Environmental Studies

The Centre for Environmental Studies of the college regularly conducts environment education classes for students and carries out project works on various environmental issues, holds seminars and also organizes awareness programmes. Centre for Human Rights: The CHR was established under Department of Political Science, Darrang College in the year 2010 with the motto to impart knowledge and make aware about the basic concepts of human rights and the measures for safeguarding human rights.

STAR COLLEGE

Darrang College has been awarded the status of Star College by DBT, Ministry Of Science and Technology, Govt. of India

BIOTECH HUB

DBT has selected the College as one of the institutes of Higher Education of the N.E region for establishment of Biotechnology Hubs with a view to promoting education and research in Biology/Life Science/Biotechnology and to attract brilliant students to this field.

THE CENTRE FOR CONSERVATION STUDIES

This Centre is a joint venture of Darrang College and WWF, India.Located in the 2nd Floor of the Bhagat Prasad Memorial Building of the College, the Centre was established in 2007 in memory of Late Pankaj Sarma, an alumnus of the College.

VOCATIONAL STUDY CENTRE

The Darrang College Vocational Centre was established on 1 April 2010, inaugurated by Sjt. Joseph Toppo, Honourable Member of Parliament, Tezpur HP Constituency of India. The centre conducts various short-term vocational courses at the cheapest cost. Courses are Diploma in Electronic Equipments Maintenance, Computer Hardware &Networking,Para Medical Course (Collaboration with LGB Mantel Health), Lab Attendants. Course, Mobile Repairing (Collaboration with ITI), Tea Husbandry (Collaboration with Toklai, Jorhat)

ECIL COURSES CENTRE

Darrang College is hosting Advanced Diploma in Software Technology, and Diploma in PC Hardware and Networking courses of the Electronics Corporation of India Limited(ECIL) for students from the Minority community under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Govt. of India.
